Reality Impaired

about

What is this web site RealityImpaired.net?
Thanks to my new job, I started traveling a lot! I also enjoy dining out, and this just worked out great since while on the road I had to eat out every night. With that said, initially I tried to keep a blog of the places I went to eat. I quickly realized WordPress, my blogging software of choice just did not have the features I wanted. On a side note, Wordpress is an exceptional piece of software and at the price (FREE) I think it is great for blogging. Sure I could have tried to hack the code and alter it for my needs, but I decided to just build a site from scratch. And so I developed this web site, which will be constantly expanding over time, with both content and features.

How did you come up with the name Reality Impaired?
Are you ready for the big secret? Well here it is, back in college, I wanted a domain and was not sure what to call it. My roommate, JR, during a class took my initials and say hey "Reality Impaired." Unfortunatly the .com was taken so I bought the .net. Since then this site has been many different sites of mine, finally ending up as my restaurant review/blog.

How does this website work?
Each restaurant is set to a city, and is classified by the various categories that it would fit into. You may start by selecting a city and all the restaurants in that city will come up. Once you click on a category all restaurants in the selected city within the selected category will show up. If you were to click on another category, all the restaurant that are located in the selected city and fall into ANY of the selected categories will show up. When you click on a different city all the selected categories are erased. Unfortunatly at this time, you can not unselect a category you must just select a new city. Finally there is a search feature which will search ALL restaurants. Try playing around and you will get the hang of it quickly.

What suddenly makes you a food critic?
Nothing, like I mentioned this started as a blog of mine. Now since I am eating out so much I choose to share my experiences. I do suggest that you take my comments with a grain of salt and visit every restaurant yourself and form your own opinions. You might just have the opposite experience of me.

What is the deal with chain restaurants?
How can you review a chain, in my experience, you can goto one location that is amazing and another that is just plain awful. If I do add chains you can expect it the review to be for a specific location of a high end chain. Don't worry you will not have any Applebees of Friday's reviews! I will do my best to make sure all chains listed are high end and worth a review!

So, I went to a restaurant and had a completely different experience from you. How do I post a comment so others can know about it?
You don't this is my site and my review of my experience. Sounds mean, but here is the deal with comments, I have run many sites in the past allowing user feedback and it just ends up turning into a spam fest or even worse an immature argument. I don't feel like being a forum moderator here, so no comments. MAYBE one day I will be so bored that I will sit down and program a comments sections in, but you can defiantly bet it is going to be annoying to post a comment, have to fight the spammers.

You really have to check out this restaurant. How can I tell you about it?
That is the next thing on my list of tasks, I will be listing up coming cities I plan to visit and any recommendations will be accepted. I plan on adding a contact area where you can also mention any possible mistakes I may have.

How do I get my restaurant listed on your site?
Sorry I only list restaurants that I have personally visited. Like stated in the previous question, I will be taking recommendations in the near future.

You live in New York, but don't have too many New York restaurants.
With the creation of this web site, I decided to stick to places I have visited since January 2006. There are still a hand full of places I have visited in 2006, which have not been added and this is because I can not remember too much about the place and will not have much to say.

Please explain the rating system that you use.
I tried to keep this as simple as possible. My goal is not to put down any restaurant here, merely share my experiences. The rating system is as follows:

Icon Description
2 Thumbs Up The Food was Great, The Service Was Great, and the overall Experience was Great. This is a place I will visit again without a doubt.
1 Thumb Up 1 Thumb Down The Food, Service, Experience might have been good, but I was not completely impressed. This is the kind of place I will visit if I am in the area.
2 Thumbs Down A completely uneventful meal. There was probably not much that would attract me back to this place.
