Pepitos - Twin Cities

Enchilada time!!! After a little googling a coworker wanted to go to Pepito's for dinner and I had to tag along. We pulled up to the restaurant and saw a huge FREE VALET parking sign. Being from NY this is a site to see! This place was already looking good and I had not even gotten inside. We sat down in and as with all good Mexican restaurants we were presented with nachos and salsa. Warning: The salsa has a kick! It was totally unexpected but you know I enjoyed it. After looking through the menu, I decided on enchiladas. What a surprise I know? I got the Enchiladas Mexicana with chicken. The sauce they topped of the enchiladas with was amazing. I could just drink a cup of it. Ok that is a little overboard but you get the idea. The meal itself was not huge, but filling and of course tasty. I am not really sure what else to say but I enjoyed my meal and will probably make another visit in the coming year.

Bloomington Chop House - Twin Cities

A coworker took me out to dinner to Bloomington Chophouse and boy was my coworker on point with his selection. I have to dive right into things. We started the meal with the seafood sampler appetizer for two, which consists of king crabs, oysters, jumbo shrimp cocktail, crab salad, and lobster. This is a seafood lovers paradise! Each item was extremely fresh. Personally, I enjoyed the lobster of all the options. Since we started with seafood, I went for a steak for dinner. The waitress recommended the NY Strip, medium rare, as that it was. They also one of 4 sauces with your steak, from which I choose the truffle butter. Kudos to the chef! The steak was excellent, well flavored, the sauce was actually useless. As usual with steak dinners, we ordered some table sides to compliment the steak. Our selections were mac n cheese and baby spinach. The mac n cheese was amazing and even toped the mac n cheese at Prime One Twelve.Since I will be in the area for the next year, I can see myself going back to Bloomington Chop a few more times.

Tiger Sushi - Twin Cities

Staying out in the suburbs of Minneapolis, there are not many sushi options. Being that I am across the street of Mall of America, I went over to Tiger Sushi to give them a shot at Sushi. What initially stood out is the place itself. Located inside Mall of America, Tiger Sushi seems like a stand in the middle of the mall. It has limited seating, aprox. 25 people, and there seems to always be a wait, even on this Tuesday night. I was in the mood for Sashmi, so I went with their Sashimi platter, which had 17 pieces of sashimi between 5 different types of sashimi. My platter consisted of Yellow Tail, Octopus, Salmon, Tuna and baby yellow tail.So what about the food? I can't say I was really impressed but I was not upset w/ the meal. At the price tag of $26 I can not really complain. I will try to find other options for sushi in the area, but until then Tiger Sushi will do.

Thunder Jackson - New York

I have to start this post by saying WOW!!! BEST BURGER EVER! That's right, forget all the other places I have been to and written up. None compare or even come close the Dirty Burger at Thunder Jackson's.A buddy suggested we go there for a burger and a drink. As we walked in and sat at the bar, he quickly ordered a burger and a 40! You read that right a 40! Miller High Life, served in a brown paper bag (apparently to keep it cool according to our bartender Michelle). The burger took a bit to come, but it was worth every second of waiting. As soon as the burger came out Michelle was quick to tell us not to put the accompanying truffle mayo and homemade ketchup on the burger. We were to simply try the burger by itself first. And as told I did and was completely taken away. The burger was juicy, and extremely flavorful. This is how food is meant to be cooked. I never added any condiments to the burger, instead had the truffle mayo and ketchup with the fries. I must have really enjoyed the mayo as well as I licked the container clean! Who would have thought, a 40 and gourmet burger would make the perfect paring? I could go on for days complimenting this place, instead I think I will just go back and frequent Thunder Jackson's!

Pazza Notte - New York

This is a story of one of those meals, where you can expect the unexpected. Here is how it all began. The idea was to grab a quick cheap bite after a day of work with a coworker. As we steped out of the office it started to pour, so we quickly ran into Pazza Notte which was across the street. Now guess where exactly I work?We walked in and realized this place was not going to be cheap.. BUT they have 2 for 1 martinis. How can you possibly say no to that? Yeah well we could not. So instead of sticking to our plan of being cheap we decided to go all out and enjoy Pazza Notte to the fullest! We started our meal with a chocolate martini and brushetta. Both items were a great way to start. As we quickly took care of the chocolate martini we moved on to a blood orange martini. Now I wish I could tell you what is in this, but the when we asked the waiter about it, he said it is really good so with out any more questions we ordered it. It was pretty good, really good not so much. My coworker and I decided to order the same entree Linguine Ai Frutte Di Mare. I must sound so sophisticated just saying it! Linguine with seafood in white sauce. Well there was a choice of Red or White, but seafood goes best with white sauce in my world. This dish was paired with a lychee martini, which was so amazing we had about 3 more later into the night! We had nothing but great things to say about the main course as well. This meal was quiet the suprise. I did not expect to go out for a meal which would even make the website. I really saw myself going to Ray's Pizza grabing a slice and calling it a meal. Meanwhile 5 or maybe 6 martinis later... we had an amazing meal none of us regreted!

Ma Soba Sushi - Boston

Ma Soba claims to be Boston's best sushi. Well I can say this much there is no competition to begin with. Boston a city that has some of the greatest seafood, is not known for nor ever will be known for sushi. Regardless, I decided to give Ma Soba a shot. I do have to give this place a great deal of credit. We came in with a group of 20-30 people! They accommodated us with out a problem. They were even willing to split the bill up into smaller groups so it was easier for us. Try that in NYC! Good luck! I basically shared a lot of different roles with a group of people. I did not order I just tried a little of everything that was at the table. Will I say this is Boston's best sushi.... MAYBE but like i mentioned what am I comparing too? In general I have had better sushi, but I would not say this is bad sushi at all. But any place that could take care of such a large group with out messing up a single order deserves two thumbs up!

Puttanesca Italian Restaurant - New York

A friend has had couple of dinners previously at Puttanesca, and for that reason she decided it was the perfect spot for a dinner for our friend's birthday. I will give this place a load of credit to begin with. We had reservations for 8:00pm and they held our reservations until 8:45 when we arrived. I am not a fan of arriving late, but it was extremely generous of Puttanesca to actually wait for us. As we were seated we were given brushetta and bread, it might not be the most exotic or special thing in the world, but dam it is great to sit down and have food right there for you! Since we were late, and starving we quickly ordered calamari to kick things off. I honestly can't say they were anything special, but it hit the spot! The entrees set this place apart. Some of the meals ordered at the table included Bistecca alla Griglia (Sirloin steak), Costolette d'Agnello (rack of lamb), Branzino Marechiaro (striped sea bass w/ mussels) and Pollo Parmigiana (chicken parm). Except for the rack of lamb, I did take a taste of the all the dishes and everything was exceptional. I had sea bass w/ mussels and was thoroughly impressed. Puttanesca is a great spot for group dinners, you can expect great service and an impressive meal - and the best part, the prices are extremely affordable. I am not sure if I can praise the place any more, it is worth checking out.

Waterfront Crabhouse - Queens

I have been a few times, especially since it is walking distance from home. For tonight a buddy and I decided to check out the crabhouse, mainly because we were in the mood for their surf and turf special. We actually did not even look at the menu this meal. We know we wanted the surf and turf and just needed to figure out what to get as an appetizer. The waiter suggested a softshell crab, that was fried with spices. It sounded good enough and we went for it. It was a great way to start our meal. As mentioned our main meal was the surf and turf. It consists of 3 lobster tails and a filet. The one issue I have with this dish is that it is served on a sizzling platter so your steak will come a slightly over cooked. I wanted a medium steak so I ordered a medium rare. The steak itself was slightly bland but then again I am spoilt after Prime One Twelve. The lobster tails came stuffed with crab as well. For a total of $31 you can not complain about the meal. This may not be a high end meal but for the price and value I thought it was great! Its close to home so I will be back!

Sylvano South - Miami

The original plan for the night was to have a Greek meal at Taverna Opa. We had a group of 16 guys so we made reservations, but when we arrived, it clearly made no difference, as we were told we would have to wait for about 30 mins. The place itself was a mess, with people dancing on the tables where their food was. Well, ok I PROMISE next time in South Beach I will give Taverna a chance, but this review is not about them. Not in the mood to wait for Taverna, the group found Sylvano around the block, which could seat us immediately, and so began the night. The plan for the night included going to Prive which turned out to be next door to Sylvano, making Sylvano the ideal spot to start the night. Looking at the website, the menu does not seem complete. I had a seafood pasta dish, as I normally seem to find at Italian restaurants. It included muscles, scallops, shrimps and calamari served over spaghetti. It was a good dish that was not very heavy, perfect for a club night. Others I was dining with had their Chicken Marsala special and everyone seemed to love it even though it was way too much to finish, even for the big eaters! This place may not be the best Italian, but if you are in South Beach looking to the hit the clubs at night, I certainly suggest, checking out Sylvano as you can get in and out pretty quick.

Prime One Twelve - Miami

In Miami for a friend's bachelor party, the first night the plan was to have a meal at Prime One Twelve. Before going, I read a lot of reviews and they all seemed to give the same impression, slow service, really pack place; so with all that the decision was to have an earlier meal on a Thursday night. I would say this was a great decision as we a phenomenal dining experience. We arrived and were promptly seated, sure the seating was a little tight, but hey I am from New York, so this is more of a norm for me. After taking some time to look over their menu we elected for a half dozen oysters, foie gras and jumbo crap cake to start with. All three dishes were amazing, but if I had to pick a favorite of the three I would go with the oysters. This was also the first time I ever had foie gras. I actually did not even know what it was before this experience and even though I liked it, after learning how foie gras is made I don't think I would order it again anywhere. Now for the important part of the meal; the steak. I ordered a 14 oz. New York Strip medium rare, and added a side chimichurri sauce. To accompany our steaks we also got the roasted garlic mash, five cheese truffle MAC and grilled asparagus. The MAC was out of this world, it is something I could come back for as a meal itself! Back to the steak it was made really well. The steak was nicely flavored, leaving the chimichurri sauce unnecessary. This was an exceptional meal. The service was really good and our waitress was extremely friendly. It does not matter what all the reviews say, this is a must try if you are ever in Miami.

Union Oyster House - Boston

Union Oyster House has the distinction of being the countries oldest standing restaurant, serving food since 1826 in a building that dates back to the 1700s. Many notable names have graced this establishment such as Paul Revere and Benjamin Franklin. For me the history was the draw. Walking into Union Oyster House, it was apparent they have tried to maintain the look and feel which was great to see. The booth we were sited in was pretty tight for even two people, but ok I can deal. To start with we ordered a half dozen of the Cherrystones and Little Neck oysters. I have to be honest I was not really impressed. With a name like Union Oyster House located in a city like Boston that flourishes with seafood, I had really high expectations. For my entree I had the Seafood Newburgh, which was lobster, shrimp, and scallops in a really rich creamy sauce over rice. Even though it seemed like a heart attack special, there was some excitement in the dish. One major downfall of this place is the service. Here are some examples of the “exceptional”(SARCASM GALORE FOLKS) service. The waitress had to come back to ask me what drink I had ordered since she forgot. Between our appetizers and meal there was a huge gap as well. The one thing that I am surprised I didn't make a stink about, I actually ordered the Lobster Newburg, instead of the Seafood Newburg! I was in the mood for lobster not shrimps and scallops! This place is worth checking out due to the history. I have read many great reviews for Union Oyster House even Boston locals, so maybe it was just an off night, but I was not really impressed with the food and service.

Bricco - Boston

Staying on Long Warf in Boston, one night a colleague and I decided to walk over to North End in the search for dinner. Walking up and down Hanover, Bricco seemed to stand out from the rest and since there was no menu outside, we decided to go in and go for broke. We started off with a few drinks at the bar, and after a surprisingly short wait we made our way over to our table. Finally getting a chance to look at the menu Bricco was slightly more chic then I was expecting for the night. This was one of those nights I was in the mood for simple pasta and sauce! Instead we started with the calamari, and for an entrée I went for a seafood w/ angel hair special. The calamari was a great way to start the meal. It came with a shrimp or 2 on the side, and was served with a horseradish type sauce. The seafood angel hair dish was interesting… mainly because I did not feel it was angel hair, it was more like thin spaghetti. Not really a major deal, as the dish was excellent otherwise. I would say we enjoyed the meal as we ended up returning to Bricco twice in the following three weeks. One return was for cordials and dessert and the other a late night dinner, which is a huge plus for Bricco as most other establishments on Hanover were closed by 10pm. On this late night trip I tried the Skate, which I really enjoy but WOW it was a huge piece of fish. I was unable to polish off the dish, I think barely made any damage to the fish! Next time I am in the North End, I will check out other places, only so I have more to compare Bricco to.

It might seem so simple, but bar food always excites me. Bars seem to have various twists on casual dishes that always seem to be interesting. Looking at Mr Dooleys menu proved to fit the bill. They had burgers named for the republican and democratic presidential candidates, John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama. Since it is a while since I latest visited as I am writing this, I can not remember the details of each burger, but I do remember having the Hillary Clinton burger and enjoying it! I think it had blue cheese and hot sauce which is probably why I was really into the burger. I have also tried the lobster roll which was acceptable here. We stopped in a few times for a lunch and enjoyed the quick service which is notable. Hey you know this place was a favorite while in Boston, due to the fact I visited 3-4 times in 6 weeks.

As you may be able to tell, a lot if not ALL of the Boston restaurants have been written few weeks after I left Boston during my early 2008 catch up phase. With that said, I am listing King Fish mainly because I do remember liking the place and I want to remember to come back here the next time I visit Boston. I went in to King Fish for a quick lunch so there was not much to the meal other then work discussion. I know you do not really care for details of the conversation but I can mention I had the seafood skewer, which was a good meal for a lunch meal. It was not to heavy and tasted amazing. If I don't get a chance to visit King Fish Hall again, I will make sure to visit another Todd English restaurant, since he does have many in NYC.

One of the greatest aspects of my job is that I often have the opportunity to dine at places, which I might not normally on my own for various reasons. Grill 23 requests that men wear jackets when dining; something I am not really a fan off. Lucky for me, working in Boston I found myself in suits daily so dining at Grill 23 after a hard days work was no big deal. I have to say, having been to many upscale fine dining restaurants Grill 23 will always stand out in my mind, most probably due to the people I dined with and the exceptional selection of wine and food! Being that Boston is known for its seafood my starter was a pretty simple decision. I had to give the Island Creek Oysters a try. The oysters were great as they had flavor but did not have the sandy taste, which will quickly turn me off from oysters. Looking for a main meal was difficult since there are few cuts and sizes of steaks to choose from. After much deliberation I settled with the New York Strip. On a side note, I always find it so weird when I order a New York strip outside of NY! Do not ask me why, as I will never be able to give you a reason. Getting back on topic, I can't praise the steak enough! Great taste, perfectly cooked as I like it, a great cut, what more can you want? How about a side of asparagus as the perfect compliment to the meal? In addition to the asparagus we had the broccoli gratin and mashed potatoes, all three of these sides were excellent. I wish I could speak a little more on the various wines that we had with dinner, but unfortunately I am not even sure what we had except for the ice wine which we ordered along side dessert. If you have never tried ice wine, I strongly suggest you do, it makes a great after meal drink.Well, with all that said, looks like next time I am in Boston, I am going to have to suit up to have another meal at Grill 23.

The staff was bland; food was boring and really nothing exciting about this place at all! As I normally do at Mexican, or as this place is classified as Tex-Mex, I went for the chicken enchiladas. Snore, boring! I felt it was canned sauce with old cheese! I really have nothing more to say, there are better options in Faneuil Hall.

Sigh, I think I might one of the major dining taboos here. Lets just jump right in to it. I went to Plaza 3 on a night I was not in the mood for a steak. After looking over their menu which took me a while to decide on what I really wanted I decided to go outside the lines of a traditional steak house and try the lamb chops. In general I am a huge fan of lamb chops, and brag I make some pretty dam good ones! Regardless I was far from impressed with the lamb chops at Plaza 3. First off they were cold, yet burnt! Not sure how that happened but what a terrible meal.I have decided that should I ever come back to Plaza 3 to a steak and nothing else! The only reason I gave this place a thumbs up and thumbs down is because I stopped by on another night for dessert and enjoyed their crème bule, plus I felt they deserved another chance. Next time steak it is.

Well this review is two months overdue. I entered Barbounia, real randomly walking around Union Square looking for a place to have dinner. I was instantly impressed with the decor, and ambiance. Most impressive was the quality of service. We were seated immediately, and a waiter came up to us right away asking if we wanted a drink to start with. To start with, we had a sampler of the three spreads w/ pita and calamari. Both were great dishes to start our meal, but I was honestly excited for the mail course. I went for whole grilled Branzino. This is actually the usual when I visit Sabry's. The fish was well made with a great amount of flavor. I am surprised at Middle eastern restaurants, with their ability to infuse such flavor into fish! HOW IS IT DONE?!Keep in mind, this place is slightly on the pricey side though. I was not expecting such an expensive meal, but oh well can't put a price on a great meal right!

Let me get it out of my system now… the following post will use the term WIENER! Since that is out of the way, time for something new. I have consumed many German beers, but I have never had the opportunity to actually give German fare a try. If you are as immature as I am, you have probably laughed at the idea of eating wiener schnitzel, but hey finally came the moment to give it a try!Walking into The Lindenhof, there was a feeling of a mom and pop restaurant. You know the type when you go on a one of those 10 hour road trips with your parents and you stop at some random place because you REALLY need to use the bathroom! Is it a mom and pop place? I really do not know. In any case the staff was extremely friendly as we were instantly asked for our drink order as we sat down. After looking over the menu couple times and not being able to decide what I really wanted, I settled on the Lindenhof Platter. The reasoning simple, it consisted of pork loin, bratwurst, and schnitzel, and was accompanied by potatoes sauerkraut and red cabbage. When this platter actually arrived, I actually was in shock looking at the amount of food I had ordered. Who cares, its off to the races for me! The bratwurst slightly too salty for my taste but yet was tasty. The ribs (pork loin) were excellent. The schnitzel, WOW, who thought that fried veal, would taste so good? This was the highlight of the platter for me, in addition to the red cabbage! If you know of a German restaurant in NYC please email me and let me know as I want more wiener schnitzel!

One of the beauties of NYC is simply walking around trying to figure out “where I am going to fill my belly tonight?” On one of these nights in the East Village we came across The Mermaid Inn. Well, if seafood is not your thing then you might as well skip this review... go home and find something else; since as the name may imply The Mermaid Inn is pretty much only seafood. There might be an item or two that is not seafood, but that's like ordering chicken at a steakhouse and who does that?As we passed by, the décor seemed inviting as did the menu, which not too large, yet seemed to intrigue me. As with any good seafood restaurant The Mermaid Inn has a raw bar sample consisting of Oysters, Clams and Shrimp, which is how we choose to start our meal. I genuinely enjoyed the sampler, but recently it has dawned on me that I am not a fan of raw oysters in general. Something about the taste of sea water reminds me of crazy trip to Cancun where I flew off a jet ski and ended up drinking a lot of sea water!Moving on to entrees, since I have never had skate before, I went for their sautéed skate wing. Actually before this meal, I did not even know skate was a type of fish, oh well learning and eating always a plus! The skate was served with a citrus salad and was a decent portion. For a random find, The Mermaid Inn was great. As I mention the menu is not too diverse, so I may not come back too often, but I will definitely find myself coming back to try their lobster sandwich.

Fusion has become the staple in NYC. What if a restaurant served Sushi, Cajun, BBQ and Mexican? You would probably think great this guy has gone to another deli for lunch and is going to tell us about it once again. Well Lucky Mojo's is no deli, instead from the owners of Bamboo Bernie's, Brother Jimmy's and Jaqcues Imo's comes an eclectic menu that will definitely play with your palette. The restaurant opened up right after the Thanksgiving weekend to rave reviews by the folks over at Queens West. Let us put the menu on hold for now, and I would like to start with the ambiance, decor, brand what ever you may want to call it. This was probably the let down of the night. Very little has changed in the matter of decor and signage from the previous inhabitants Smokey's 11101. Actually the only sign currently up is a paper on the door that says Lucky Mojo's. I am sure this is going to change, but I was hoping to see something a little different. Trust me though, this should not be a reason to keep you away.. just keep reading. We stepped through the doors and so begins the Lucky Mojo's experience. Immediately we were greeted by a hostess who explained the menu and mentioned that in addition to the seating downstairs there is a sushi bar upstairs. Nice touch! Being that I would like to sample a little of everything, I choose to just sit at a regular table. We were placed at a booth with out silverware or menus, but the extremely friendly staff quickly turned the situation into a comical one leaving us with a smile on our faces. Looking at the menu we decided to order two Sushi rolls as an appetizer. The yellowtail black dragon, a yellow tail roll toped with caviar and a jalapeno; and another roll, whose name I can not remember, but it had crispy crab, yellow tail and tuna in it. Both rolls came on one try and very nicely plated. The presentation had us trying to compare whose camera phone took better pictures. Presentation aside, the sushi was simply amazing, there is no other way to put it. You could clearly tell, these are skilled sushi chefs. After enjoying the sushi so much, the bar was set pretty high. For an entree, after much deliberation through their rather diverse menu I went with a Shrimp Po Boy sandwich. A Cajun fried shrimp sandwich, which came with a side of your choice; cole slaw in this case. This was a really good dish during which I did mention "wow this is some really good cole slaw." Overall, Lucky Mojo's is a welcome addition to Long Island City! It was a great experience and one I look forward to in the future.

Joe's Shanghai - New York

Well here is something different; soup dumplings. Joe's Shanghai has three locations, one in Flushing Queens, another in Chinatown and the third, which I visited in Midtown on west 56th street. I stopped in for lunch, due to a friend who went to the Flushing location the day prior. He claims, they put crack in their dumplings which keeps you yearning for them the next day. With a comment like that this is something I really need to check out. To be honest, the idea I had in my head was a small hole in the way, but when I walked in wow. Joe's Shanghai is actually a rather large place, with a very nice decor. Since we went around 11:45am, we beat the lunch rush, quickly sat down and ordered the pork dumplings, crap/pork dumplings and scallion pancakes. Each order of dumplings came with 6 pieces, so between the 12 dumplings and pancakes it was a filling meal for the two of us. Now a little on these dumplings, they are not your normal dumplings, they are actually filled with soup. On your fight bite be careful they will be sizzling hot and if you just bite into the dumpling you are in for an unpleasant surprise. There is an art to eating them, pick the dumpling up with your soup spoon, poke a hole with your fork or chop sticks, suck the soup out then eat the dumpling. The part that brought it down for me, was that the crap/pork mix tasted exactly the same as the pork, so I was unable to tell which was which. It was a good meal, not exactly a cheap lunch meal, but entertaining. The next day I was craving the dumplings, not sure if it was just fun to eat or really laced with crack!

The beauty of Manhattan is the options you can have during lunch. I feel like it is possible to eat somewhere new everyday. On this day for lunch a friend decided to check out Saigon 48, on 48th St and 8th Ave. We walked in around 130pm and were promptly seated, which is key for lunch. Before even leaving my office for lunch I took a look at their menu online via menupages, so I knew exactly what I wanted. Saigon has a lunch menu with many options all for somewhere around $7. As for my pick itself I went with the Pho. It has been a while for me, but I had the craving. This dish actually seemed to be larger then most other Phos I have ever had. Needless to say I was not able to finish but did enjoy the portion I did. Aside from lunch, they have a decent size menu and this place is worth a shot for dinner as well. Everything is very well priced, large dishes so you can not really go wrong.

Jackson Diner has been a long stand tradition in Jackson Height as has it's neighbor Dehli Palace. As a child I swore off Jackson Diner. I had few bad experiences that left me with a sour taste; well in on case no taste since my food never case. Well to be fair, the past is the past and I am older, wiser, more mature (some may question this), and so I made a trip back to Jackson Diner. I went in for a weekday lunch buffet and was presently surprised. I was greeted by friendly staff and as should be with Indian buffets, I was promptly seated and was off to the buffet. The selection of items in the buffet was normal, with the addition of fresh dosas. One major plus point was the turn over of buffet here. Being such a large place, Jackson Diner was not packed, yet they had a good crowd leading to the food at the buffet turning over a decent rate. I would be confident in saying each tray was sitting outside no longer then 20-30 minutes, with the butter chicken, probably even less. For a trip back it was an excellent experience and next time I am in the area, I might find it a struggle to pick between Dehli Palace and Jackson Heights.

When I am sitting at home and really want a good meal there are two items on Cafe Henri's menu I can always go for and they are the Muscles or the Hanger Steak. Both are excellent selections and as long as you are a fan of muscles or steaks you will not be let down. The place itself is kind of tight, and in the summer it can get really hot inside even with their portable AC. Regardless, I order and will take the food home. Their crepes are amazing as well. I normally go for one of the breakfast crepes on a Sunday morning (read as it is really 2pm, but I just got up and have a hang over!). Finally when you do go MAKE SURE you get the pineapple juice, its the one thing I make sure I always get there!

Being an avid fan of Japanese food, not sushi alone, I normally find it difficult to make a decision at Japanese restaurants. To my delight Nami Sushi offered combination plates with entailed options such as Teriyaki, Sashimi, Tempura. I choose a Chicken Teriyaki with Sashimi combination plate. The plate came with a Salad with Ginger dressing of course, a favorite of mine when eating Japanese, a miso soup, chicken breast teriyaki and 7 pieces of Sashimi. Talk about a tasty filling dish. The sashimi was fresh, chicken soft, and overall made a great meal. This is a spot to check out for a nice (probably expensive) dinner out in Minneapolis.

Being in Houston, and in Texas for the first time, I had to get my hands on some real southern BBQ! Based on a recommendations we decided to give Brothers-In-Law's Bar-B-Que a shot. Brothers had a really great combo meal which come with a number of meats depends on the combos. The options of meat were Ribs, Beef Brisket and Sausage. Additional the combo came with sides of your choice. Since it was lunch time, I felt that a combo of 2 meats with the ribs and brisket was all that I really needed. It did take a while for the food to come but that can only make me hope that it was fresh. When the food came out, the ribs were simply amazing. The meat was melting off the bones, hey I was even able to eat ribs (prob bbq foul) with a knife and fork. Just call me sophisticated. The brisket was different then I was use to. I am used to having brisket shredded style, but it was served as slices. I actually liked this version better and need to get places in NY to go to this style of brisket! For my first real southern bbq meal I was impressed, I can't wait to see where my travels take me next for BBQ.

Well there is a story to this one. Most would probably ask how does one really stumble across this restaurant in such a random location? It went a little something like this. I was actually in Houston for a friend's event, and one of this friend decided we should all go and visit Galveston. In description it sounded great, and I could not wait in reality...ehh just not the place for me. In any case the best part of the trip was driving your car onto the boat that takes you over to the island. Since the trip to get the island took us so long from hotel to island, we were famished by the time we arrived on the island and the only thought was FOOD! We saw Tiki Beach Bar and Grill and decided it would work for us. Boy did it work out. The waitress mentioned that they are famous for their burgers, and what stood out on the menu was the crimp burger. It was a combination of crab and shrimp burger! Once we found out what it was, it was what everyone went for, and it was an excellent pick. Additionally we had other items such as wings, fries which were all great as well, and this not just the hunger speaking. For me Tiki Beach bar and Grill was the saving grace of the trip to Galveston, at least I have another 2 Thumbs restaurant to add to the site.

For a good time call..212-586-7714... whoops sorry! For Restaurant week I wanted to pick a place I have never been to. I decided not to read any reviews and just pick a random place and that random pick was Victor's Cafe. What a great pick it was! We originally had reservations for 7:15, but arrived a little early around 6:00. In order to kill some time, we hit the bar for a drink and by around 6:30 they were ready to seat us. Once seated, I am completely impressed with the quality of service. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive. We actually decided to stick with the prix-fixe, which is great being that it is served for dinner on all days, and not only for restaurant week. I started with the Chorizo Salteado Servido con Mariquitas, sausage for those who prefer English. This appetizer was extremely tasty and was not salty at all, which seems to be a norm for sausage. The person I went with for dinner, choose the Empanada instead, I had to grab a piece of it and both items were an excellent way to start the meal. For the entree both of us went for the Ropa Vieja, which was also the waiter's recommendation. The dish is a shredded skirt steak served in a plantain bowl with rice. This Ropa Vieja was out of this world! The initial look was not so great, the portion seemed small and did not look as good as it tasted. Finally to end of the prix-fixe dinner, I selected the Flan over the sorbet. As for the flan all I am going to say is my eyes rolled and toes curled!

I would suppose if you are going here, you are going for the beers, if not and you are truly going for the food, you may not be impressed, yet you will not be upset either. I wish there was a more descriptive way to put it but their food for ehh, okay. We started with a plate of waffle fries with cheese and jalapeños. Good way to start the meal; of course I had a beer on the side a Stone IPA. For my meal I tried the pulled pig (pork for those who might be confused) sandwich. Maybe... just maybe it was my mistake ordering BBQ at a random NYC Ale house, but this dish was just there to fill me up. I can not say I hated it, but I have definitely had better pulled pork. The sandwich came with a side of cole slaw which I did enjoy, so it was not a bad meal at all. I did wash down the meal with a Heffiwiessen (someone needs to help me with the spelling of this one!). If you live in the area and are looking for a bite after work, this is not a bad choice.. but not a place I would go when I am in a mood for a nice meal, I would prob walk over to Choice instead.

I will warn in advance, this review is long overdue. I visited Amorina on a random night, when we were out looking for an Italian restaurant. The one we decided upon was closed and somehow being in the area we walked into Amorina. Since it has been a while since I visited the place, I am struggling to remember what exactly we had, even though there is a pretty small menu from which to choose from. What I can remember is that the meal was nothing exciting. We did get a tortellini with meat sauce, tasted like something I could have made it home with Barilla pasta and Raju meat sauce. Fine, that might be a little extreme Balduchis meat sauce; is that better? The pizza we wanted was not available and we got something, which I did not care much for. I will probably not end up back there... oh well. Really not much more to say here.

I had one of the most interesting experiences at Alma, one that I am not sure will ever be duplicated again, but was none the less, something I wish to talk about. Alma is a Mexican restaurant that has 1 floor as a bar, and 2 floors of dining. The top floor is a roof deck, which allows for some great views of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge. The night I went to Alma, was a stormy night in NYC, and we felt it would be a great idea to go sit on the roof deck (which was covered, come on we are not that crazy). As we are sitting there, even though its covered with plastic drapes sprinkles of rain were getting in and some how this enhanced the overall experience. I do not understand the fascination I had with it, but I enjoyed it! Well of course there was food involved in the night, as an appetizer, I could not resist to order the seafood ceviche. It was Shrimps, scallops and snapper in a citrus sauce, which was to die for. I actually did mention during my meal "next time I will simply order 2 of these and call it a meal." Since we are at a Mexican restaurant you can pretty much guess what I ordered as my entree.. ENCHILADAS! Woohoo, ehncys! Yeah I just made that word up! I had a choice of a chili sauce, mole sauce (ewww), and a pumpkin seed sauce for my echys. The mole and pumpkin see just sounded too sweet to try, so I stuck with the chili sauce, and was I glad. The sauce had a great kick to it. The enchys themselves were well made, cheesy and stuffed with chicken. Alma, is a great date spot and hey if you can catch it on a stormy like, you might get that little extra excitement I had.

It is not often I find a Thai place that excites me. Especially in New York City, it seems most of the Thai places are very generic with the same food over and over. Sripraphai on the other hand definitely stands out! The overall experience with Sripraphai was great with one minor detail. They close at 10pm and do not take any diners after it seems 9pm. Additionally they are closed on Wednesday. Now that thats out of the way, time for the food. We got there late, did not get a seat but decided that taking it home would work. We ordered the Ground Chicken with mint appetizer, Tom Yum shrimp Soup, A Shrimp dish, whose name I can not remember and a Green Curry with chicken! WARNING: THE FOOD HERE IS SPICY! I started off with the soup, and as much as I loved it, it was painful. We ordered the food medium, so perhaps mild might be the way to go. Having the soup on a hot summer night was like self torture, but I just enjoyed it so much I could not stop. The Ground chicken appetizer was very tasteful, I was surprised that I have never ordered this before at a Thai restaurant, this is a must have as they also make it with beef or pork. The Shrimps and Green curry was great as well albeit not as spicy as the soup, or maybe at this point I have burned off my taste buds, who knows? Mental note, order mild so I do not kill myself next time, and make sure to go at a time when are open so I can enjoy the food fresh as it comes out.

Perhaps you have read about Anytime Cafe in Williamsburg tried their lamb burger and are now looking for a regular beef burger in area. Well tonight, I came across DuMont Burger, a relatively small burger joint / bar. From the initial looks of things, the expectation was high. The place was packed on a random weeknight, and in addition there were folks sitting outside eating burgers as well as some waiting around for their to-go orders. It did take about 10 minutes to get a spot to sit, but hey there is a bar in the place so you can commence your intake of alcohol in any case. I am not sure why I really even looked at the menu when I sat down. The place is called DuMont Burger, hmm..I will have the burger please! Well fine, there was a good reason to look at it. They have the regular DuMont burger and a DuMont mini. They are 8oz. and 6oz. respectively. Being, the man I am I went for the regular burger, medium (thanks) with a side of fries. It did take a while for the burger to come out, but in the meanwhile, I did take in A thats correct singular, beer. As for the burger itself, it was cooked just the way I liked it, but wow was it filling. Sadly, I was unable to finish the whole thing. I was enjoying the burger, but I just could not take the whole thing down! Next time, I might have to go for the DuMont mini and I will have a second beer while waiting!

We went to Choice, randomly last night for dinner, and wow I can not wait to head back. I can not remember the last time I went to restaurant and just everything I tasted was mouth watering. To start off, we had the coconut shrimp, buffalo chicken strips and a crap dip with pita chips. The crab dip was out of this world. I could not find the crab dip on the menu, but I guess one of the people I went with, visit this spot often enough. Maybe it was a special, I was more then a couple of drinks into the night by this time. Ok as I am writing this, I want the crab dip, I have a feeling I am going back there tonight. For my entree, I went for the 10oz filet mignon, which unlike The Spot was cooked medium, EXACTLY as I like it! IT was well flavored and a good portion, with the side of veggies. Someone else ordered the peppercorn pork chops, whom I decided to share my meal with. I am normally not a big fan of pork chops, but wow did I enjoy this. If you can not already tell, I will be back here quiet often.

Maybe it was just my luck, but before we went to The Spot, I was told to expect an excellent filet mignon. This reccomendation came from someone, who I would say knows what he is talking about when it comes to food. As I expected, I ordered the filet, but when it came out, I was not overly excited. I do not think it was cooked medium as I requested, rather awfully close to well. Good thing others, ordered various other dishes I could leech of. The greatest dish was the mushroom soup. I have to also add the fries were also quiet impressive. Besides the food, the environment in this bar was rather lively, and the night we attended was trivia which just added another level of excitment to the meal.

So why is it listed on your website of restaurants, where you choose not to mention chains? Very simple, I had a great time there! If one person finds this review and goes to Howl at the Moon, I am a happy camper. Oh, wait on second thought they do have beer, so at least it can be classified as a bar, and well we have a bar section here so PERFECT!Enough of the nonsense, and I shall get to the point, Howl at the Moon is a dualing piano bar. I have never been to one before and it was simple there was a band, which would take requests and play songs on the piano. They had some additional instruments but the piano was the key instrument. What really impressed me was that they knew the song, the history, how to play it all based on the crowds request. There is no other way to put it, this was just an amazing experience, and if you are ever in a location with a Howl at the Moon I suggest you check it out first thing!

Compared to all the other places I have visited in the Tampa area, Zen Bistro seemed out of place. It really seems like a place you would find in New York City or Chicago. It was slightly too trendy for what I was use to in Tampa, but yet the ambiance when well done. The plexi glass floors were an excellent touch; this might be a reason just to go check out the place. Even though Zen Bistro had a great sushi list which included my favorites, I decided to go with their regular menu and try the Zen Lettuce Wraps. Looking back, I am glad I did not go with the sushi. I really hope it was simply an off night, as my coworker decided to get the sushi and was not thoroughly impressed. The exact description was “there is too much vinegar in the rice”, and when I tried it I could back up that comment. Good thing it was not my meal, because my lettuce wraps were a lot better, hey I actually enjoyed them. It was minced chicken, lightly spiced with great flavor served with the lettuce (of course) and a spicy sauce and peanut sauce. The spicy sauce was excellent, I was not able to figure out what exactly it was but, boy was it good. I would have given this place 2 thumbs up if the sushi was good, hey if you put sushi bar in your title you better deliver!

Right off the bat, do not let the name fool you. You probably are thinking this is some run down Chinese buffet with food that sits around for days on end. Completely wrong! Of the many Chinese and Asian Buffets I have graced with my presence and appetite, Crazy Buffet takes the cake. As you walk in you will be surprised this is not what the name would lead you to believe. We were greeted by a hostess who before even showing us to a table; gave us a little tour of the buffet. The buffet included a sushi buffet, a hibachi, seafood delicacies, Chinese fare, other various Asian dishes and of course a dessert bar that tops all I have ever seen. The sushi selection was quiet extravagant, something to compete with Minado, back home. I went with my usual, yellowtail, octopus and tried some other pieces. There was a bagel roll with my fellow dining mates (is that a real term, guess it is now) just could not have enough off. Couple other items that were a big hit for me were the Peking duck, Snow Crab Legs, Shrimp Cocktail and Ginger chicken. Finally, as I previously mentioned the dessert bar really stood out, this is because Crazy buffet is the only place I have been to that had a chocolate fountain! In its self that was worth the whole experience!

This is a place my coworkers seem to go quiet often, so on this night I decided to join in. The menu was quiet appealing, mixing, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Thai food. Since I have not had it in a while, I was happy to see Pho soup on the menu. For those who may not know what it is, basically it is a noodle soup with beef. Normally it is served with hot sauce on the side. We got our orders in, but for some reason it took them an extremely long time to bring the food. It seemed like almost 30 minutes. Granted we did have a pretty large group of I would say about 10-12, but still it just took way to long. Finally the food did come, the Pho itself, I was not really impressed with. It was good, but nothing to rant and rave about, it might be that I am just a hard person to please! As for if I will be coming back, I definitely will, I think they deserve another shot, and hopefully next time will be a better experience.

My final buffet during my excursion to Las Vegas was a lunch buffet at Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino. Now if a size matter, then this is not the buffet for you, perhaps you should check out my reviews for Spice Market Café or Carnival World, they will better fit your needs. Regardless I felt that this buffet fills the cliché quality over quantity. I could probably just name all the items at this buffet but instead, I will focus on the reason I enjoyed this buffet, that being the crab legs. At the previous two buffets I went to during this trip, I tried the crab legs, but none of them could match the quality of the crab legs at Caesar's. They were easy to break into and were meaty once you got into them. Aside from the crab legs, I also enjoyed the variety of salads. Since it was during brunch, they also serve fresh made to order omelets, which I skipped on due to the line, which I am never a fan of waiting in line for food. There were also fresh waffles which you could with a variety of options including ice cream. I felt this buffet was worth it and is really meant for the person looking for an excellent meal without doing the ala carte thing.

I get to continue with my special Las Vegas Buffet special here at Reality Impaired. My second buffet in Vegas was the Rio Carnival World Buffet. As you can guess this is an international buffet as Spice Market Buffet is. Unfortunately for Carnival World, I had lunch at Spice Market and the bar was set pretty high. Too start off the dinner was around $28, not to bad for a dinner buffet in Las Vegas. The selection here is out of control. There is so many different options it might be over whelming for some. What stood out in this buffet is the Asian BBQ where you can select your meats and veggies and have them cooked fresh. Other then this, I found this place to be so-so, what I could not stand was the service or lack there off. When I got crab legs, I was unable to find the "cracker" in order to actually eat them. I had to do it manually and well it was not too much fun. Perhaps it was an off night or just a rather large crowd that we had, but I was not really impressed.

With a weekend in Vegas you can bet I enjoyed the buffet heaven that Las Vegas is. Located in the Aladdin Casino, now known as Planet Hollywood, I made my first buffet stop at the Spice Market Buffet. Spice Market is an international buffet featuring Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, Seafood and the genre that makes Spice Market stand out is MiddleEastern. Spice Market is the only place directly on the strip where you can find Tandoori Chicken! I know there is an Indian restaurant in the Rio Hotel, but Rio is not on the strip; I will get to their buffet a little later. Getting back to Spice Market, there was so much to choose from that I barely touched the buffet, but I can say I really enjoyed their selection of Seafood and their MiddleEastern options. I went for lunch on a Saturday and it cost about $23 with tax. The person I was eating it also mentioned her enjoyed the chocolate milk, I don't even know what to say about that, I guess you just have to try it.

If you like seafood then there is nothing else to say then; you need to try to place if you are ever in the Tampa Bay area. The one thing to watch out for is that the food tends to be on the sweeter side. But you need to put that aside, because you will get some greatly flavored dishes. One of the best things about the restaurant is that you can actually pick a fish from a list which seems to vary and you may select a sauce Garlic and Cilantro Butter Sauce, Creamy Spinach Rockefeller, Roasted Creole Tomato, Spicy Mango Salsa, Pineapple Rum, Banana Daiquiri. On this night, I went for the tilapia with the Roasted Creole Tomato, and it came out excellent. For the seared tuna fan, they also had an excellent looking seared tuna a coworker of mine ordered. We also started off with an order of fried calamari, which we completely enjoyed. I can not wait to go back and to make things better they have a burger and fries deal for Mondays.

I do enjoy it, but maybe I am just getting bored of it. With that said, off to dinner to Amarit Thai. I met up with a group of co-workers who had already selected the appetizers already. There was an order of something very similar to shrimp tempura, but wow, definitely something better. As normal, when it comes to Thai, I try to find something a little bit different, then the normal curry or pad Thai. This time; I slightly swayed, as I decided to go for the red curry with shrimp and chicken. When the portions came out, I was certainly surprised to see such large dishes, and I had ordered one dish for myself! The curry came with a side of white rice. When ordering, I did ask for my meal to be mild (not spicy) and that it was exactly. I could have used a little extra spice in hind sight. Perhaps next time I will be asking for it medium, since I know I will be going back to check out other items on their menu.

As we walked in I was slightly confused, not sure if this was a bar, fine dining, or diner. After we were seated I got the feel of being a step above a diner. Looking at the menu, I was excited, the menu had Italian, seafood, burgers and steaks, just what I was looking for that night. On the night I dined at Daddy's grill they had a special of crab cake and shrimps, which I ordered blackened. The crap cake was ok, nothing special, actually I would avoid it if I were go back. The shrimps though, are the reason I will end up coming back here. I will simply come back just to get the blackened shrimps. The prices were not too bad, and the portion was actually really good. Daddy's Grill felt like a home cooking type of environment, so if that's what you are looking for then this is the stop for you.

Yeah! Enchiladas time for me! For some reason I really enjoy enchiladas, I might even go as far as saying it is my favorite food. This time we dine at Casa Tina's, in Tampa. It is actually located right outside Tampa in Dunedin, but it is close enough. Casa Tina's had an interesting menu, with items such as crab enchiladas and “Un poco de todo” a do it yourself dish with the various sauces and sides they offer. Even though the crab enchiladas sounded appealing, I went with the regular chicken enchiladas with verde sauce. I completely enjoyed this dish, and liked the spice in the verde sauce. I was with a group of co-workers, and some of the other dishes ordered were Guacamole salad, Un Poco de Todo with chicken, Carne Asada, ceviche and the crab enchiladas. No one had any complaints and everyone finished their plates so I can assume they enjoyed their meals as well. It won't be long before I am back here to try other items on their menu.

RUB BBQ - New York

In NYC, good barbeque is hard enough to find, but to find a true ‘que' experience, until last night I thought did not exist. A friend took me to RUB; an acronym for Righteous Urban Barbeque; located in Chelsea. What gives this place a unique dining experience is how they choose to serve the food. You can order by the pound, and have it set in the table in front of you to share. All food is with out BBQ sauce, instead there are couple different sauces for you to top off the food with yourself. For our meal we ordered, fries, onion strings, cornbread, cole slaw (mayo), 1 lb of pulled pork, 1lb of sausage, and 1 rack of baby back ribs. This was a lot for 4 people, but the waiter said it would be enough. The pulled pork and cole slaw was the highlight of this meal. For NYC I think this is excellent BBQ food, but I have eaten better elsewhere in America. I did enjoy RUB and definitely see myself going back especially for the pulled pork and cole slaw.

Churrascaria Plataforma - New York

Churrascaria Plataform stands out as one of the most unique dining experiences. If you have never been to a Brazilian barbeque, you will be in a meal you will never forget. As we were seated we were pointed to the buffet. Since this is the point where most people start their meal the line can be quiet long, during our visit the line actually wrapped around the buffet once. The buffet consisted of various salads mostly veggie and seafood, sushi, shrimps, scallops, squid, various chicken dishes and more. I warn, as tempting as it is to fill up at this stage of your meal, DO NOT, there is a lot more to come. Once you are done with your plate and your appetite has been teased, you will notice a red coaster on your table, if you turn this over it is green and the fun begins. Waiters will come around to your table serving various meats (and couple other surprises) for you to indulge in. Some of the meats we had were, lamb chops, pork lion, flank steak, garlic steak, grilled chicken, bacon wrapped steak, prime rib, and even garlic bread, grilled cheese. Everything was excellent, but the garlic steak stood out to me. This continues until you decide to turn that coaster back to red. At this point you may feel stuffed, perhaps even thinking of the sin of gluttony you may have just committed, but the meal is not complete yet! The waiters will come around with a cart of desserts; they will describe about 10-15 different desserts from which you can choose your poison. There is a fixed price for this fiesta, but keep in mind the fixed price does not included drinks and dessert. This is one meal you must experience in NYC.

When 13A opened, I could not be happier as this was originally the home of The Spare Rib, not the worst chain I guess, but a chain none the less. When driving by; 13A seems to give off the idea of being a bar and grill. In actuality, 13A is a mix of a sports bar, lounge, fine dining all in one! When you enter the dining area the focal point with out a doubt is their little living room setup of 2 couches, a coffee table and working fireplace. After that you will notice the plethora of flat panel TVs. 13A's menu is a mix of BBQ, Steaks, and various bar food. To begin with we had an order of the jumbo cocktail shrimp. I was not completely impressed, but then the previous week I had eaten at Docks so there was an extremely high standard set. I am not sure I would order them again, probably just try something else on the menu. For my entree I went for the 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs. The meat just fell off the bones. I was actually able to eat the ribs with a fork and knife, that's right folks no nasty sticky hands after ribs. The ribs came with a side of cole slaw and beans. Dining along with me a friend ordered a steak, and another got a pulled pork and chicken sandwich. Both enjoyed their meals as well. Additionally, I have to mention we went on a Monday night and they had a $3 Blue Moon special. It is great to see a place like this so close to home.

Oysters so good even a 2yr old will eat them. That should be the catch phrase for Docks. As we were promptly seated on a Friday night at Docks we immediately ordered a plate of the Oyster Sampler. Dining with us was a 2yr old, who we decided to try and feed an oyster to see her reaction. Her reaction was "I want more." The oysters here are simply great there is no other way to put it. In addition to starting with the oysters we added a crab cake and an order of shrimp cocktail. The crab cake was filled with flavor and the shrimp cocktail be it only 4 pieces were large. For an entree I was interested in the BBQ Seafood Grill. I was told that this platter is different day to day, but in my visit it came with 4 different skewers, Tuna, Shrimp, Salmon and a White Fish. I was also advised to have the BBQ Sauce on the side, which I will pass forward. The food was so flavorful; I did not see any use for the BBQ sauce. To be honest I found the BBQ to be very generic, without spice so I just stayed away from it and requested their cocktail sauce. Finally to end of with; we ordered a Crème Brule and a Cinnamon Ice Cream. There was nothing special to them, but hey I did not come here for dessert, I came for seafood and I loved it. I will have to go back to try their lobster and fish.

Be it after work or late night, Scruffy Duffys is always a great bar to visit and especially to eat. I am not sure what time their kitchen closes, but I always make sure to get there a little early to grab a table, so I can sit down order some of their great wings and enjoy. For years I have said Scruffy Duffys is the home of the best wings in NYC, and I stick by it! Every time I go the wings are just as great as the last time. They have the perfect recipe for their wings; meaty wings, nice spicy sauce, and a healthy portion. Between 2 people an order of 12 wings was more then enough. I have never had anything else on the menu, but I have been with others who have ordered other items and they have enjoyed it. Besides the food, there is many other reasons to visit Scruffy Duffys. First off is their selection of beers. It not a super large selection like Hop Devil Grill, but it is a great selection to please every beer drinker. Finally, if you are a Pittsburg Steelers fan, feeling lost in NYC then you have found your home. Go here during a Steelers game and you might be blinded by the Gold and Black.

Part of the great BR Guest group of restaurants Ruby Foo's is quite a charm in Times Square. Be warned, Ruby Foo's Time Square, is located in tourist center of NYC so when you make your reservations be ready to wait slightly longer once you arrive! Regardless the wait is well worth it. Ruby Foo's has a great mix of Chinese and Japanese dishes, with an interesting selection of sushi. Like most Asian Fusion restaurants family style is your best way to go about dinner here. For a group of 5 we ordered 3 appetizers and 3 main plates and a side of fried rice. We started off with the chicken lettuce wraps, chicken pot stickers and the vegetarian dumplings. I enjoyed each appetizer, but I must say I asked for hot sauce to add on top of the lettuce wraps. Something interesting about the pot stickers which are basically dumplings is that they are served with out any sort of sauce, but are still excellent. On to the entrees, I guess I was not over my duck kick from Peking Duck House from the previous weeks, so I had to order the Peking duck, along with the chicken teriyaki and the vegetarian bento box. To be honest I would not have ordered the veg. bento box, but we had a veggie joining us for dinner. The duck was great, not as good as Peking Duck House, but still enjoyable as was the chicken teriyaki. None of my fellow diners were fans of sushi, so I did not get to try any, perhaps on my next visit. I would also like to make a special mention of their fried rice. It was vegetarian fried rice, but had a large array of fresh veggies on top, making it one of the most unique and tasteful fried rice dishes I have ever had. Like I mentioned earlier if you plan on going, be ready to wait, perhaps relax by the bar and start of with a drink, or a glass of wine as I did but be prepared for a great meal.

There is no way other way to put it, if you enjoy Peking duck, then Peking Duck House is the place to go. It is advisable to go with a group of people who actually enjoy duck, this will probably work out the best. There are a couple of duck meals, which are for groups of 4 or more. I did not have the opporunity to try the meals, instead I just went for an order of Peking Duck, which was a nice size portion, the waiter suggested it for 2 people. They actually bring the duck out and carve it at your table, and then the server each made our first helping. Too bad the server was not around to constantly make us the duck rolls. In addition to the duck we also had a fried whole fish. I did not order too much, but for the 3 of us that went for dinner, it was more then sufficient. Before our meal we did start off two appetizers, which hit the spot. We had an order of the Barbeque beef and one order of the vegetable steamed dumplings. I really enjoyed the complete meal and service at Peking Duck House and can not wait to go back.

If you are looking for Indian food in New York, Jackson Heights is your spot. Many will tell you that Jackson Diner is the place to go, but I have always and will continue to hype up Dehli Palace. Normally, I will end up at Dehli Palace when I am in the mood for their buffet, which I would say is one of the best and most unique buffets you will find in an Indian restaurant. During my last visit they had shrimp biryani, something I have never seen anywhere, which was outstanding. Everytime I go to Delhi Palace, there seems to be something different on the menu; so it leaves some sort of an element of suprise. From their menu, there has been one item I have loved since I was a kid and that is their Keema (minced chicken/lamb) Dosa. Growing up it was a favorite and that is one thing that will never change.

Last weekend I went to Stanton Public for a night out at the bar, but I entered with an empty stomach, which is not a good idea especially at a place like Stanton Public which has an exceptional selection of beers. The real reason I am writing up this spot is because of their honey mustard! That is right, their honey mustard. We ordered chicken tenders and fries which were served with honey mustard and well we just could not get enough of the honey mustard, it was just excellent. The fries were OK and the chicken tenders were actually pretty good. As I mentioned earlier Stanton Public does have a large selection of beer, it does not rival Hop Devil Grill or Croxleys, but might be worth a trip especially for the honey mustard.

I think I may have stumbled across the best deal in NYC. I say stumble because it was a random Thursday night which some how we decided to goto a bar and without any plans we decided to got Crocodile Lounge. So why is this place the best deal in NYC you ask? Crocodile Lounge gives you a free mini pie of pizza with every beer you purchase. In case you missed it, Crocodile Lounge gives you a FREE mini pie of pizza with EVERY BEER you purchase! And these are not your Pizza Hut Express personal pan size, they are slightly larger. I do not think I could ever see myself eating more then one pie ever. At Crocodile Lounge $5 gets you a draft beer and a pizza pie! Can you get a better deal in NYC? At least I have not found it yet. Suprisingly the pizza was actually pretty good as well, but be careful as they come out steaming hot! There is nothing worse then burning your palatte when eating pizza. From what I have read about the Crocodile Lounge, they give away free beers on Monday nights in a Nintendo tournament, and have Trivia night on Wednesday. I don't think I can say enough good things about this place just got there!

Topaz Thai is located couple blocks from my office, which is how it was discovered as a lunch spot. Be warned Topaz is a small place, and get extremely crowded during lunch. Perhaps this is due to their excellent food at a very reasonable price. The service here can be a bit slow during lunch, but I felt it is worth the wait. When we went, we got really lucky we had a group of 5 and we were seated immediately. Their menu is like a typical Thai restaurant, except the difference, their food has a very authentic Thai taste. I felt this is the type of food you would get if you were to go eat at a Thai families house, it had a home cooked feel to it. It is a good thing it is around the corner, since I will be enjoying this place for lunch more often.

Tao is a staple in NYC! It is one of those places everyone dines and just constantly talks about, to the point I feel like I have no choice but to give it 2 Thumbs Up regardless of what I think. I mean lets be realistic if everyone loves it and I say it is OK, either there is something wrong them or me. In any case, Tao came very close to my expectations. Be warned getting a table here can be troublesome. DO NOT: show up late, show up without your whole group, go and try to get a seat last minute. Make reservations it is worth it. For our meal with started off with Satay of Chilean Sea Bass, Jumbo Shrimp Tempura, a Crap cake and couple rolls of sushi. Everything lived up to the Tao hype especially the Satay, which was the best part of the meal as far as I am concerned. When it came to the main entree, I feel I made a mistake. I went for the Wasabi Crusted Filet Mignon, someone at the table recommended the Miso Glazed Sea Bass, and I should have listened to her others ordered it and loved it. The Filet was good, but nothing too special, I would probably not order it next time. Finally for dessert, everyone I was with decided to order the molten chocolate cake, I had to be different yet again and get the chocolate raspberry wontons. This is a decision I was very happy with. Tao was a great experience, and does certainly support the hype around it, I just say stay away from their Filet and go for their Seafood or even better Kobe!

During lunch we go out grab food (just so we can get out a little) only to return to our desk with our lunch. Well Yips is the perfect quick lunch spot. Yips is a small Chinese joint where you can be in and out in a New York minute. They have 3 areas to take your order each with their own register. They have pre-made dishes which are served with white or fried rice. I actually made 2 visits this week and had the Thai chicken and some other Saute chicken. The Thai chicken hit the spot, the 2nd one was OK, not to my taste but made well. The best part of it all it is affordable. A full meal will cost you less then $6! How can you go wrong here, good food, quick and affordable, this is the best lunch spot you can find in Midtown! One note, the entrance to Yips is actually on 52nd street between 5th and 6th Ave, do not let their address misguide you.

Buffets and Indian food seem to go hand in hand, so what does it take to stand out from the many Indian buffets available not only in NYC, but in the rest of the country? Chola seems to have found the trick. In addition to the traditional table of dishes, Chola serves various fresh dishes at your table. During my visit they started us off with Uttapam, followed by a Dosa and various chaats. After picking at these dishes it was time to hit the buffet itself. There was a great deal of selections Pani Puri, Chicken Mahkni, Lamb Curry, Mixed Chicken Grill, Pumpkin Masala, Palak Paneer, Iddly, Ucmah, Chicken Birayani, and couple other dishes. The downfall and the only reason I did not give this place 2 thumbs up is because I felt their non-veg dishes were not that special. The vegetarian plates were excellent, and I would definetly recommend this place to someone looking for a vegetarian place to dine. The Chicken Mahkni was hard, lamb was dry, and mixed grill cold. Yet this should not be a show stopper. When visiting Chola during the buffet my suggestion is go for the vegetarian food. I am not sure of their Ala Carte service, perhaps I will try to visit them for dinner one night.

Roy's Restaurant might be a little difficult to find at first. The address is 130 Washington and there is a door on Washington St, but it is located inside the Marriott Financial Center. I found it easier just telling the cab to take me to the Marriott Financial Center and walking through the hotel to find Roy's. Roy's is an Hawaiian Fusion restaurant and has to be one of the best overall values in NYC. We had a pretty large group and were not sure of the exact size, regardless they were able to accommodate our reservations and have all seated. Now the stand out item of this place was their Prix Fixe Menu. In $30 you had a choice of 3 appetizers, 4 entrees and 3 desserts. A three course meal at this price is one the best deals I have ever seen. I can not remember the options for the appetizer, since everyone I went with, ordered the Dim Sum sampler without hesitation. The sampler had a tuna roll, ribs, crab cake and coconut crusted shrimp; after hearing this the other appetizer options just did not match up. For entree there was a Mahi Mahi, Grilled Chicken, Hibachi Salmon and Filet Mignon. Most of my friends choose the Mahi Mahi, meanwhile I went for the Filet Mignon, which was served over potatoes with a light blue cheese sauce. I did get to try a piece of the Mahi Mahi, and both meals the Mahi Mahi and Filet were simply amazing. The portions here are just the perfect size, nothing to large, but they fill the appetite, not leaving you hungry. With out meals we also decided to order a few bottles of wine, before you think I am some insane high roller, you must know that Roy's has a $30 wine menu. That's right a bottle of wine at a restaurant for $30. They were not high end wines, but were great wines to have with people who are not big wine drinkers. Finally dessert; I only remember 2 of the options for this, Chocolate Souffle and Creme Bule. As usual, I went for the creme bule, while most ordered the souffle. The creme bule was made to my liking, nice crust but not to hard. After doing some research it seems that the Prix Fixe menus changes, so now I have more reasons to visit Roy's again. Finally a special two thumbs up to the staff, who were kinda, courteous and most importantly friendly.

I have been dining at Jaiya for many years. Orignally Jaiya was located in Elmhurst, Queens, but recently they moved their Elmhurst location to Hicksville, Long Island. I also know there is one located on 3rd Ave between 28th and 29th Street in Manhattan, I have never personally dined there, but I have been told by many that they share the same quality. Thai has recently become a huge trend, but through time Jaiya has always stood out as a unique thai restaurant. The first think you will notice you will not find the typical names on the menu, this might make it hard to order if you stick with the typical Thai dishes such as Pad Thai. Do not worry though, Pad Thai is there just called Thai Style Noodles. My reccomendation is to start every meal with one of their Spicy Thai Style soups (Shrimp, Fish, Chicken or Pork), which are served in a flaming pot. Becareful though, this can be extremely spicy, my general rule is to order everything mild there. As for entrees, I have felt you can not go wrong with anything at Jaiya, but a favorite of mine has been the whole fish platter they have, known as the Jaiya special fish. When going to Jaiya, go for the food, the decor is nothing special, but that is not the reason you are there.

Well for once I took a break from work and went out for a nice sit down lunch, while in Chicago. This time I ended up at Klay Oven, in our hunt for Indian food. As most Indian restaurants Klay Oven has a lunch buffet. Living in New York, I have been to hundreds of Indian buffets and one problem with them is normally the balance between veg. and non veg. food. It seems a place is dominated by one of the other. This is where Klay Oven differed. They had an excellent selection of food in both areas. They had about 4 dishes each, rice your typical Indian salad of lettuce, onions and tomatoes. They also had couple of desserts, which I never had, since I did fill myself up with the buffet. I found myself addicted to the chicken curry and rice, I did not really try much more, except for a little of the palak (spinach). The food was not spicy at all either, so this is great place to go visit during lunch and not have to worry about burning a colleagues or clients palate.

Heaven on Seven - Chicago

First things first when you walk into Heaven on Seven you will notice a plethora of hot sauces along the walls, just a great setup for an exciting dinner. We started off with a couple of appetizer sampler plates. I am not really sure what was in the sampler, since most of it was fried. The items that stuck out were the friend corn muffin and ribs. The ribs were both meaty and juicy and tasted great own their own and with some over the various hot sauces. For my entree after looking over the menu about ten times, I went with the cajun surf and turf. It was a shrimp and beef cubes served over a bed of rice with a brown sauce. Every entree comes with a choice of soup, salad or gumbo. I had to try the gumbo, and for being my first time, I have to say I liked it a lot. Getting back to the entree itself, the beef was slightly over cooked for me, but the shrimps and sauce had a really exciting taste. I did have to add some hot sauce, mostly because there were so many options I wanted to taste them all. The dish was quite large, I did finsih all the pieces of beef and shrimp but left most of the rice. As for the hot sauces, there was a Trinidad hot sauce, which was my favorite. I just keep eating it with bread. For the spicest there was a green sauce, that had quite a kick to it. To bad I do not really remember the name. If you go, guess you have to try all the green ones til you figure it out.

Lobster House - City Island

In my 20+ years of living in New York, I have actually never gone out for a meal in Bronx, and even worse, is that I had never been to City Island, which I have heard so much about. On a random Friday night, my friends and I decided to make the trip to City Island to feast at the Lobster House. A quick comment on the area; City Island is a seafood lovers dream, with the amount of restaurants and proximity to the water you know you are going to get some of the best seafood available. Here are some other City Island Restaurants. The Lobster House itself was huge, we got there on a Friday night around 830pm and were seated immediately. The greatest aspect of the Lobster House is that they have a bunch of seafood feasts, which are meant to be shared between two people. A friend and I decided to share a feast consisting of Lobster, King Crab, Dungeoness Crabs and Jumbo Shrimps. Their feasts are definitely made for two, as we got 2 lobsters, 2 sets of each crab and 4 jumbo shrimps. The meal also came with a salad, side dish (fries, baked potato, rice or linguine) and corn. At $75 for the dish this is not a bad deal at all for the amount of food we got. A friend of mine got the paella, which included chicken, sausage and a lobster. It looked real interesting, perhaps next time I will give it a try. We did end off the meal with their Tiramisu cake. The cake was one of the softest tiramisu cakes I have had and was a great way to end of the meal. I can not wait to go back to Lobster House.

Prime Burger - New York

The original plan was to check out Burger Heaven on 49th and Madison, instead so how we were differed to Prime burger on 51st between 5th and Madison. The word is that this is a favorite spot for Sarah Jessica Parker, so you Sex In The City fans, you know where to go. When you first walk in, you might be in a slight state of shock. This is not a trendy little joint; it is like an old hole in the wall diner. One of the most interesting aspects of the place is the seating in the front. It is almost like sitting in the exit row of an airplane; an individual table that traps you in. We missed out on the opportunity to sit there, but next time! The staff may initially come off extremely rude, but that is just the opposite. Since the place is called Prime Burger, there was no choice but to have a burger, and so I did with a mushroom burger. The service was out of this world quick, just the way you like it for lunch. The burgers came out within 5 minutes all cooked to each individuals liking. The one downfall to the place is the size of the burgers, I would say they are slightly larger then a regular McDonalds burger, but far better in taste. If you have an appetite, not to worry since they do have a "deluxe" which includes 2 burgers and a side of fries. To top off our meal it was a friend's birthday and the staff came out and sang a nice upbeat version of happy birthday. A little excerpt "I don't know but I've been told; somebody is getting old...." If that does not bring a smile to your face I have no idea what will.

53 Gourmet - New York

Being close to my office, 53 Gourmet is a deli I frequent visit. The orignal reason for going to this place, was that it was possible to eat something different everyday. Their selection is just uncanny, they have various salads, sandwichs, wraps, sushi, soups, hot buffet style, and more. From my many experiences, I can say their sandwichs are great, they are probably the best choice over the rest of the options. I strongly advise to stay away from the hot food, it has probably been some of the worst food I have ever eaten! The salads buffet is not bad at all, the food there actually feels fresh. The one issue with this deli, I guess its all NYC delis during lunch is that it can get real stressful during lunch at the sandwich bar. If you are one of those that like to sit back and take a look at the full menu, this might cause an issue as the staff is in such a rush. I think this is a great lunch spot but like I perviously mentioned just stay away from the hot food!

The orignal plan for the night was to go to Divine Bar on 54th and Broadway, but once we arrived one of my fellow diners, felt there was not much he was interested in on the menu, so over to Serafina we went. My first impression of the place was the service is going to be up and down here. As we walked in they told us it would take about 10 minutes for a table, but did not take our name. As you can guess they almost forget we were waiting for a table. In the process of waiting for a table, I asked the lovely lady at the bar for a menu so I could decide what I wanted. Yes, I was insanly hungry that night! To start off we ordered the brushetta, such a simple but a great start to the meal! For my meal I ordered the Farfalle al Limoncello, Pasta in a lime cream sauce with baby shrimps with those who like lamens terms. At the price of $16 I expected to see two pieces of shrimp on my plate, but that was far from reality. The pasta was surrounded by the baby shrimp. It was a great dish and I am really glad I went with it! Finally we did have a dessert, but I was so full from the Pasta that I had one bite and watch my friends devour the chocolate souffle. The service overall was a bit on the slow side, we actually ended up asking different servers for things since our server did not come around that often, other then that the food was excellent.

I think its time to hand over the title of best burger in NYC. Honestly, I feel bad taking it away from Creek and The Cave, but Anytime Cafe just gives me no choice. It is easy to miss Anytime Cafe as it is surrounded by huge establishments such as Sea and Galapagos, but once discovered this place is sure to stick out. First off this place is not expensive at all, a meal for 3 people with drinks ran about $65 with tip! To start off we ordered chicken fingers and a hummus plate. Now I did not choose the chicken fingers, but the people I was with said it was a must have. The hummus came out with fresh pita bread and was a good helping of hummus, as I write this I am actually craving it again. As for the chicken fingers I was impressed. They were smaller pieaces served with a honey mustard sauce, but had a great deal themselves. Well back to the burger nonsense I began withl I ordered their Anytime burger, which is a lamb burger served in a pita bread! WOW! A nice juicy lamb burger, by far the best I have had! Really if you eat lamb, you need to make a trip to Anytime cafe. If you like your food spicy make sure to ask for their special hot sauce. It is called Srug, it is possible the waiters do not even know about it since it is not on the menu, so you have to ask for it by name. Don't worry I will never demote the burger over at the Creek, but we will keep it as the best burger in Queens, while from now I will give the title of best burger in NYC to Anytime Cafe.

It has been a while since I have been over to the Meat Packing district, I am not sure why guess I just never liked lines which is what kept me away. This trip though was not for a club, instead it was to dine at Highline. To be honest I did not know that restaurants had opened up in area, I knew there were alot East of 9th ave, but west of 9th ave no clue. And on to Highline. I guess the new style is trendy thai restaurants and this place fits the mold. Dim lights, hoping bar, and an exotic menu. Personally, I am fed up with the typical, red, green, orange, purple, fucia curries, they all taste the same just with a different food coloring! Now when I visit a Thai restauant I try to have something different, something that might make a restaurant stand out in my mind, and Highline had a sirloin steak, which was just what I wanted that night. The steak itself was slightly on a dry side, but was covered with a excellent peanut sauce, which did manage to make up for the slight dryness. Someone in our group did order the striped bass, which was simlply amazing, I think I need to make a trip back for the bass! We did have some appetizers; we ordered chicken Satay and a seafood dumpling type thing. The satay was good, but just that good! As for the seafood thing, which I have no idea what to call it exactly, has crapmeat stuffed into what looked like a fried dumpling. The presentation was A+ and the taste was even better! You will definetly have to find this on the menu! Finally to top it all off, as I got the dessert menu the first item on the menu stood out at me and that is what I ordered a smore chocolate cake! I can only say its was YUMMY! Thats right I used the term yummy! Overall, I was impressed with this place and think it might a great date spot.

If you are asking, is this the same Ali Baba located in Queens, the answer is yes. Ali Baba in Queens is my favorite places to get kebabs, and now they have one on Long Island, I could not be happier. I have had almost every kebab on their menu, but the lamb is always my kebab of choice. Don't get me wrong all their kebabs are great, but the lamb is just so juicy, I can never get enough of it. I will say this much, I only eat the kebab platters, everything else just does not compare to the rice, salad, white sauce and kebabs. That's right I said white sauce, do not forget to get extra as it is the perfect complement to everything. I do have something to say about the rest of the food, I went the other night with a friend and he ordered the Gyro, and it looked really fresh and not greasy at all. After seeing my friend enjoy it, on a next visit I gave it a try, and it really surprised me how great it was. Looks like I will have to venture to other items on their menu in future visits.I was searching for the Queens location and I realized this site came up so to aid those looking here is the address183-10 Horace Harding Expressway, Fresh Meadows, NY718-463-7362.

I have been to the Long Island Locations many times and each time it has been a sure fire hit! This review is one the International Ale House, Franklin Park location. If you feel the need to call yourself a beer connoisseur this is your place. Their selection of beers is comparable to Hop Devil Grill. For the food, I have NEVER had anything I have not really enjoyed at this place. The wings, nachos, burgers and even their random Lobster special! I would like to point out that they have a Thursday special of Burger and a Beer for around $10! Now you can not go wrong with that deal! Just remember do not order a bud light here.. they DO NOT HAVE IT! Thank god! I am not sure what my favorite beer would be but they normally have Cherry Wheat on tap and some great German wheat beers, which are usually my beer of choice.

Axia is a pretty new place, and I have to say there is a lot of room for improvement. This place does not have a liquor license "yet," how do you name a place Restaurant and BAR but do not have a liquor license. I guess they want to push their expansive list of mock tails, which include various types of bubble tea. Yeah well, I stuck with water, which they conveniently forgot to bring out, but that's not to important I guess. I started with a Beef Pho soup, which if you have ever had before you know is a huge portion. I did enjoy the soup and wish I had not ordered more food, so I could finish the soup. For our meal we ordered a chicken teriyaki, a spicy salmon roll and the Axia Special roll. The Axia Special roll consisted of salmon, shrimp tempura and asparagus I think. I can not remember exactly, but it had a unique and quite a great taste. This was by far the best part of the entire meal. The chicken teriyaki was OK, nothing to special and the spicy salmon roll, was good, definitely fresh fish. The service itself was not impressive at all. The waitress forgot to bring our water, forgot to bring out the 1 glass of juice we requested and even messed up the bill. In a little time I can see this place getting better, but for now go for the food not the overall experience.

Korean Grill House is not your normal buffet. You do not need to continuously get up to get your food, but do not worry like any buffet there is some manual labor involved. You cook the food! That's right you pick the buffet type you would like and they bring out the food raw and allow you to cook it yourself. My buffet consisted of chicken, beef ribs, beef, pork, white fish, salmon and scallops. I think I enjoyed the process of cooking the food over actually eating it. I am not saying the food was not good, it was just being able to cook the food yourself, which lead to a great deal of stupidity in my group. The meal came with rice, kim chee, spicy tofu and other common Korean snackers. I stuck with the meats, and my personal favorite was the beef ribs. The white fish lacked any sort of flavor, so needless to say we did not eat too much of it. Korean Grill House is the first of its kind and I just enjoyed it too much. If you know of a place like this around NYC, maybe KTown please email me and let me know!

Angelo's is normally crowded every night of the week until they close and can draw large crowds. Due to the crowd, the servers can be a little rude, they are in a rush at times. At my last visit I really did not even get to order any drinks, but it is OK since I enjoy their food and that is the reason I was there. I ordered the Lobster Ravioli, which came out quite quickly and wow, did it hit the spot. Well the highlight of any meal for me at Angelo's is dessert, I simply love their cannoli. The rumor is that they do not make them there, but get them from a pastry shop next door. I say who care it tastes awesome, which is all that is important to me! Since this meal was sort of rushed, I really do not have much more to say except, if you are looking for great Italian food, this is your spot, just be ready for minimum service.

I was taken to Lounge 47 and told it was rated best burger in NYC, and could possibly compete with the neighboring Creek and the Cave's Veracruz burger. I sat down and ordered Lounge 47's special Allen's Hard Lemonade. It is their own version of what tasted like a Lynchburg Lemonade, which was so great I took it down in one sip, and followed it with a Brooklyn Lager. Since I was told the burgers were so great, it would only be fitting I order one, as so I did with sauteed onions on top. The burger came with a chipotle mayo and fries. At first glance my medium burger seemed extra well done, but after my first bite, it was much of a surprise. The burger was juicy and cooked exactly as I like them. The burger was nicely spiced and I will say it does give the Veracruz burger a run for its money. We also had the pork tacos, which were good, but just a little dry, they could have used some sort of little kick. For those of you in Long Island City, you sure have some great selections when it comes to burgers, so enjoy!

Being more of an outerb kind of guy I have never went to the other side of Manhattan into Hoboken, but now the time has come. On a side note I have to say I did like the area, clean and seems like a fun place to have a relaxing night out. As a friend and I were walking down Washington we came across East LA which seemed interesting, and well to be honest I was in the mood for Mexican food, so this place worked out well. I was impressed with their selection of Margaritas, specifically the Sangria maragarita. Never had one before and I really enjoyed this one. For my meal, after tossing back and forth with the enchilladas, but I went the Camarones Sotovento, a dish of shrimps served over rice. This place was pretty crowded and we got a seat outside, so I did not realize that it took about 25 minutes for the food to come out. The dish itself was pretty good, I am actually glad I did not just get enchilladas, it was something different. I do not think I will ever come back, since there are some many other places to check out in the nabe, but I would tell my friends about East LA. It even seemed like a fun place to just go and grab some drinks in the evening.

From the owners of The Cheesecake Factory comes Grand Luxe Cafe initially started in Vegas now brought to Long Island. Perhaps at first view this place feels like it is out of place located in the Roosevelt Field Mall, but if you go in you will be glad it is around. Grand Luxe Cafe offers indoor as well as an European like outdoor dining. I really appreciated the decor here, and it definitely feels like it has been grabbed from Vegas. When the waitress first approached us, she mentioned their portions were "generous", so I skipped out on the appetizers, I wanted to save room for dessert. As my entree I ordered the Shrimp and chicken jambalaya, it was one of my favorite dishes at Cheesecake, so I wanted to give it a try here. It was served over rice, and had a pork based sauce. Since I skipped on the rice I was able to finish all the shrimp and chicken. While I was ordering my meal I also ordered dessert...yes at the same time, this is because they had fresh baked desserts that take 30 minutes to prepare. I ordered an upside down pineapple cake.. and wow 30 minutes, fresh baked, what else can I say it was amazing! This is one of the reasons I actually listed this place under desserts, since I can see myself going just for their fresh baked desserts.
